ROAD CYCLING
Road Cycling includes highways, byways, scenic routes and other paved hard surface trails that will generally handle a road bicycle that has the more narrow faster road tire and equipment set up. Most of the areas in our local region require at a minimum either very strong physical fitness with a standard bicycle or a 10 speed bicycle at minimum, because they most all include a variety of flatlands, and hills which may include steep inclines and declines and require the use of low and high gears and good brakes!!! Roadways by their nature include dangerous potential life hazards such as vehicular traffic, vehicle exhaust, and due to their location in rural and remote areas, possibly mountainous, farm and forest terrain or city municipal human and crowd hazards. Roadway hazards such as fallen wet leaves, wetness, snow and or ice in winter, and debris and or wildlife and dogs are possible. Especially in mountainous, rural and forested locations, rapid unexpected in-climate weather changes and other rapidly changing conditions may incur. Many of these areas DO NOT HAVE CELLULAR SIGNALS!!!  As a result of the nature of our regional terrain, they often include a variety of flatland, inclines and declines, that can at times be quite steep.  Be Prepared. Know your ability. Have the proper equipment. Know your route. Stay alert. Have spare equipment, batteries, tires, patches, tools, head and tail lights, reflectors and safety devices. Wear a properly fitting helmet. Prepare for weather changes. Have emergency contacts, and leave a bike plan for someone not coming with you, in case you get stuck somewhere and/or lose contact, need a pick up or get injured.

You are responsible for your own safety, stay alert and aware, safety equipment, high visibility, reflective clothing and lighting and knowledge/understanding of roadway safety and laws are required. If you are riding as part of the club YOU MUST SIGN AND HAVE ON FILE, BY A CLUB OFFICER OR APPROVED DESIGNEE,  A WAIVER/HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT PRIOR TO PARTICIPATION!
